Started out reasonably enough but soon descended into a typical grauniad dig at brexit and those that voted for it.
They must think their target audience are fucking morons.

Lots of Essex man types on this website will be up in arms about this once they've finished ranting on the Glastonbury thread.

The guardian, and the entire mongrel race that comprises its minuscule readership, are very welcome to die

The Grauniad always had one of the better sports sections of all the papers. And at least it makes some effort to report news rather than simply reflect readers’ prejudices.
And Essex always was a hellhole.

There are signs that the thread linking the idea of Essex to a distinctively Thatcherite model of “every Essex man for himself” is wearing thin, as Essex grows tired of cuts to public services after a decade of austerity. Local elections in early June resulted in Labour capturing Southend council for the first time in its history, and Basildon council now also has a Labour leader. But the spectre of Essex man is still haunting our politics – now as a gung-ho hard Brexiteer.

Some interesting historical stuff and well written albeit by someone from Southend which I always thought had indigenous inhabitants that were different in their outlook from those of us who had move into Essex from London. They were more parocial and somewhat naive. Despite that I think the piece is a good "generalisation" of "Estuary Essex". Essex is of course much more.
For what it is worth not all of us that moved from London to Essex conform to the stereotype of Essex Man. I have never voted Tory and have yet to own a Mondeo. All I did work for Ford. My three daughters when being introduced at talent shows and the like when on holiday would always say they were from London to avoid the Essex Girl label. The eldest one did get accepted into Cambridge and her interview she wasn't belittled. As for Brexit in 1974 I voted out in 2016 it was in. Now I don't care. What the article got right is that I support West Ham United.

So apart from - mention of Harlow the piece is all about the A13 corridor.
Ignoring all the rest of Essex.
Righto.
The rest of it reads like a piece of A level sociology homework.
About the intellectual level of that paper these days. Mind you, that’s a step up from the vast majority of the rest of what passes for newspapers in this country.

I would agree that the Guardian sports section is normally great quality sporting journalism.
As a train driver who gets to walk through empty trains on a daily basis it is amazing how many copies of unread immediately discarded Guardian sports sections crop up. Way more than Telegraph sports sections. Think that says something about Guardian readers.
As for your 'Essex always was a hellhole.'...
You clearly know fuck all about the county which stretches from the edges of London to the sea and has the second longest coastline of any county. All you know is the shit you've seen and read in the media.

if you think Essex is a "hellhole" then you need to get out more.
But then it's the type of comment I would expect from a fucking retard.

I wouldn't bother mate. It's pointless. You are dealing with a cretin that talks a lot but knows very little. He spouts media driven bile and naïve bias all day everyday on here.

Hadn't bothered reading, but if the author has genuinely said 'flat and treeless' then it really does show this rag up for what it is.
Clueless, puerile, infantile spastics.

To be fair, although I guess some of you don't want to be, the article is not a travel guide. It is commentary on the "invention of Essex". Its main failing is that it does little to challenge the prevailing caricature but tries to justify it.
